U Kyaw Swe, an administrator from Lonkine village-tract in Hpakant Township was shot dead by two unknown gunmen on 9 June, according to locals.
“Two men arrived on a motorbike and took him away at around 1.30 pm when he was at his home. At around 1.45 pm, the people living near Lonekin cemetery heard the sound of gunshots. Then, he was found dead,” a local from Lonekhin said.
U Kyaw Swe served as 100-household administrator at No.5 ward in Lonekine village-tract before the military coup. Following the coup, he served as the administrator of Lonekhin village-tract in Hpakant Township.
A local said: “It’s difficult to say why he was killed. It may be because Ko Kyaw Swe is currently serving as an administrator under the military. It’s difficult to say exactly.”
Following the military coup, the Hsankywal village administrator was first shot dead in Hpakant Township.
Last month, around 30 people were shot dead in Hpakant, Mohnyin and Myitkyina Townships in Kachin State, according to the records.
