Locals from Mong Yaw Station in Lashio Township of Shan State are unable to go to their farm as tension continues to mount.
On November 2, the military council clashed with the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA)-Kokang. Locals don’t dare to go to their farms as tension mounts till date, a local man told the Shan News who said on condition of anonymity.
“Following the fighting, the military council has taken position near our village. Soldiers told the villagers not to come to that place. We don’t want to go to our farms as that place is located on the way to our farm. A heavy shell landed near our village when both sides fired heavy shells in the fighting,” he continued.
The MNDAA-Kokang is active in Manwaing village and nearby the mountain.
“Locals fear that fighting may intensify as three junta soldiers were killed in the clash. Farmers have not carried their harvested paddy, corn and groundnut while others have not harvested their paddy yet. I worry that we cannot carry harvested crops if the fighting erupts,” he added.
Farmers may lose their crops as they are still harvesting their paddy, corn and groundnut. Fighting may hamper their livelihood.
In addition to the military council, the northern alliance, the people’s militia force and the Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) are active in Mong Yaw Station. There are frequent clashes.
