Since the morning of October 21, locals from Moesit and Yaylae villages located on the bank of Ayeyarwady River in Shwegu Township have fled to safer places as seven military ships loaded with rations go upstream from Htigyaing to Bhamo, according to locals.

“Since this morning, some people have fled to safer places as the military ships are heading to the villages. Some people have fled to the IDP camps in Shwegu Township while others have fled to the villages on the other bank. All the people will flee when the ships are approaching,” a woman from Shwegu told the KNG.

Moesit and Yaylae villagers are located on the other bank of Ayeyarwady River. Locals flee their villages as the junta soldiers regularly destroy houses, kill animals and arrest and torture the people whenever they advance to the villages, locals said.

“Currently, seven military ships heading to Bhamo have arrived in Katha Township. The ships are loaded with more than 150 soldiers, rations and ammunition,” a person close to Htigyaing People’s Defense Force (PDF).

The military council mainly uses waterways to transport soldiers, ammunition and rations. There are frequent clashes between the military council and the PDF in Shwegu Township.
