Basic commodity prices go on rising, and the people have started facing a shortage of rations as the military council continues to block all entry and exit gates of Matupi in southern Chin State and there is no inflow of commodities.
“All roads remain closed. We have to rely on the remaining food stocks. Until now, we cannot go out of the town. Gasoline is going to run out if the shutdown continues until next week,” a local from Matupi said.
The military council has blocked all entry and exit gates in Matupi after the clash between the military council force and Chinland Defense Force (CDF)-Matupi resumed near the town on September 19th. The military has also imposed a travel ban and restricted transport of commodities.
The military council has opened the checkpoints on the roads connecting Matupi-Mindat, Matupi-Hakha and Matupi-Paletwa roads which are the three major roads for the entry and exit of Matipi.
No one is allowed to use the roads.
The military council has deployed troops across Matupi and taken security measures by erecting red flags outside the town. The military council fires heavy weapons every day, a Matupi local said.
Matupi Township in southern Chin State sits on a strategic location in terms of geographically or military affairs. The military strategy and two battalions are based in Matupi Township.
On September 19, 24, 25, 27 and 29, the CDF-Matupi clashed with the military council force. A total of 19 junta soldiers and a member of CDF-Matupi were killed in the clash.
