Kachin Women’s Association of Thailand (KWAT) pointed out in its report dated on June 16 that Military Council has been targeted attacking civilians and violating human rights commitments as a revenge for its loss in Kachin areas.

KWAT General Secretary Daw Moon Nay Li stated in the report that the military troops breached the human rights as a revenge because Kachin Independence Army (KIA) had occupied some military camps.

“There had already been numerous human rights violations in our Kachin areas since before coup. However, after the coup, everything seems to be in their hands. This report intends to point out that Myanmar Army is doing as they wish,” explained Daw Moon Nay Li.

According to this report, after KIA occupied Alaw Bum Camp on March 25, the military troops, as a revenge for its loss, shot the civilians’ houses in Momauk township with heavy weapons and deployed their forces in the villages. Then it made over 6,000 people displaced to the cities of Momauk and Bamao.

According to KWAT’s record, the serious artillery attack of the military troops in Myo Thit and KonLaw has caused 9 locals died and 15 civilians, including 3 children, hurt.

Moreover, the Military Council improperly arrested the youths from Myitkyina, Mohnyin and Karmine township through allegations of contacts with KIA and then tortured by hitting the heads with guns and touching with cigarette’s fire.

Daw Moon Nay Li added that the international community was also urged to impose sanctions on Military Council that was destroying the lives and property of civilians.

“Min Aung Hlaing was invited in ASEAN Summit. This is not the thing we desire to be. Even if this invitation does not mean to recognize Military Council, this invitation seems to give the Military Council a new chance to do further violation of human rights. Please recognize the NUG government which is formed through the will of the people. Then we want to request the International Community to outlaw the exports of arms to Myanmar, to prohibit the use of Military aircraft and to demarcate ‘No Fly Zone’,” she said.

Moreover, she further called for an assistance to civilians and internal displaced persons who have been suffering the serious violations of their own rights.

Kachin Women’s Association of Thailand (KWAT) was formed in 1999 at Chiang Mai, Thailand and KWAT is advocating women’s rights and crimes against community by military troops in Kachin areas.
