The battalions under the Karenni Nationalities Defense Force (KNDF) carried out the clearance of landmines planted by the military council in Phruso and Demawsoe Townships in Karenni State.

On April 20th, the KNDF B-06 defused the mines planted near the houses in the conflict-hit area in Demawsoe Township.

The military council troops planted mines mostly in the villages and within a radius of around 100 meters of the places where they were stationed.

We are in need of the mine searching machines for the safety of our members and the public as the mine clearance is dangerous, said Ko Zaw Htet, an information officer of the KNDF B-06.

In recent days, a member of the KNDF Battalion-6 was killed and two others wounded. In addition, two members lost their legs due to the landmines.

Ko Zaw Htet, an information officer of the KNDF B-06 said: “The people need to avoid going to the conflict-affected areas as much as they can. They should not return to their homes to bring the materials if there is no emergency case. I would like to call on the public to cooperate with the Karenni Army (KA) and the KNDF in case of emergency.”

After the fighting in Karenni State, the military council planted the mines in the villages and the places where they were stationed.

Locals were killed and wounded as they stepped on the landmines in the villages.

On March 18th, the KNDF B-02 cleared 14 landmines planted by the military council troops which were stationed for over one month.

The KNDF’s Battalion-4 could defuse the mine planted by the military council during its area clearance operation, according to the statement issued on April 20th.
