Kachin Independence Army (KIA) took control of Taw Hmaw military camp shortly after the capture of La Maung strategic military camp of the military council in Lone Kin village-tract in Hpakant Township of Kachin State, according to the Kachin Independence Organization (KIO).
The junta’s Taw Hmaw military camp, situated in Lone Khin village-tract, serves as a front-line security camp for the military council, similar to the La Maung military strategy camp.
A KIO news source said: “Taw Hmaw was captured at around 4.30 pm today. This is a big military camp. This is one of the major security camps.”
Around 9 am on 15 August, the KIA and allied forces captured La Maung hilltop military camp. At around 4 pm on the same day, they sezied Taw Hmaw military camp.
Taw Hmaw military camp is located about 10 miles from Hpakant and close to Kan Hsee village. It is a militaty camp which mainly monitored six battalions of the KIA, said a Hpapant resident.
“Taw Hmaw camp is located on the road to KIA’s battalion-6 in Kan Hsee. It is close to La Maung camp. It is a frontline security camp on the road to Battalion-6,” he said.
La Maung military hilltop camp and Taw Hmaw camp are loacted about five miles apart. The junta’s Light Infantry Battalion- 12 is stationed at Taw Hmaw camp, the Hpakant resident said.
On 14 August, the KIA and allied force sanmutenioulsy attacked La Maung camp and Taw Hmaw camps which had mainly served as security for the strategic military hill camp, Lone Khin ammunition camp and Kan Hsee camps. On 15 August, they could capture the two camps.
In the battle to capture La Maung military camp, the KIA arrested 12 military council soldiers and seized a large quantity of weapons, said the KIA frontline source.
The junta has resumed fighting about four months after the KIA captured six strategic military camps of the military council in Hpakant Township in early 2024.
