KIA clashes with junta troops in Kutkai Township

There was a clash between the military council troops and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) near Kaungkhan village in Manpyein village-tract in Kutkai Township in Muse District in northern Shan State, according to a source.

At around 8 am on 9 February, the KIA which is active in Manpyein village-tract ambushed a military convoy of nearly ten vehicles leaving Theinni Township to Kutkai Township, said a local man who declined to be named told the Shan News.

“A military convoy of around ten military vehicles left Theinni. The KIA attacked the military convoy near Kaungkhan village. The gunfire hit the wheel of a military vehicle. It is found that a KIA military column arrived here yesterday,” the local man said.

“I have not got any information about fighting yet. It may be that I have not received information as fighting takes place today,” Col Naw Bu, Spokesperson of the KIA told the Shan News.

Locals said till 10 am, they heard the sounds of gunshot from Manpyein village-tract. The number of casualties from both sides cannot be confirmed yet.

On the 62nd Anniversary of founding the KIA, General N’ban La, Chair of the KIO/KIA warned that a big political shift shall be made. The public is urged to prepare for security as the military situation may intensify.

The KIA is an armed organization which has not signed the Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement (NCA).
