KIA captures Lawa Yang camp at the entrance of Laiza, KIO says

Kachin Independence Army (KIA) again seized control of Infantry Battalion- 601 Lawa Yang camp in the upper La Jar Yang village at the entrance of Laiza in Dawthphoneyan Township of Kachin State, on the morning of 9 March, Kachin Independence Organization (KIO) confirmed.

In the early morning of 9 March, the KIA and joint forces attacked the Lawa Yang camp. At around 9 pm on the same day, the joint forces took complete control of the camp, Colonel Naw Bu, spokesperson of the KIO/KIA confirmed.

“We captured a military camp between La Jar Yang and Lawa Yang. We started attacking the camp at 7 am and captured it at around 9 am. We have been constantly taking military camps in this area,” Colonel Naw Bu said.

This is a big camp named Masen Bum located between La Jar Yang and Lawa Yang, with a military strength of 30-40. Junta soldiers had been stationed there since 2011.

This camp is located on Myitkyina-Bhamo road, which controls the entry and exit of Laiza, a local man from Dawthphoneyan said.

“It is a key camp and an entrance to Laiza. We can go to Laiza freely after this camp has been captured,” he said.

On 7 March, the KIA and joint forces launched an offensive against a strategic camp named Hkanggai Bum of LIB-142 in Dawthphoneyan on the west of Myitkyina-Bhamo road in Kachin State.

On 8 March, military council soldiers surrendered to the KIA, according to KIA’s frontline sources.

From 7 to 9 March, the KIO has been conducting an offensive against the military camps near Laiza along Myitkyina-Bhamo road, Colonel Naw Bu said.

Currently, the KIO has seized control of Hpun pyen Bum, Ntap Bum, Daw Phone Yan LIB-142 and a lot of small frontline outposts near Laiza, Colonel Naw Bu continued.

The KIA is conducting an offensive against the remaining Hkaya Bum and Bumre Bum near Laiza.
On 9 March, the KIA took control of Maliyan and Ding Wa Rum camps in Swanparabwan Township. Fighting continues in LIB-46 in Swanparabwan.
