It is reported that Karen National Union (KNU) Chair General Saw Mutu Say Poe in the meeting of Karen Armed Leaders on yesterday warned not to spoil peace on the pretext of nationalism and the current political situations of the country.
At Law Khee Lar Office, the headquarter of Karen National Union (KNU), located in Hpa-an District, Kayin State, the leaders of four Karen armed groups including Karen National Union (KNU), Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA), KNU/KNLA-PC Peace Council and Border Guard Forces (BGF) held a meeting from June 15 to June 16 to seek solutions for the conflicts between Karen armed groups and Myanmar’s current political turmoil as well. In that meeting, the KNU Chair General Saw Mutu Say Poe also gave the speech.
It was heard from confirmed sources that KNU Chair General Saw Mutu Say Poe said in the meeting as follows: “I want to ask the questions of whether you will solve the problem or you will make the problem more complex. The leaders should firstly ask these questions yourselves. I want to warn all of you that it is necessary not to spoil peace on the pretext of nationalism and of the present political turmoil of the country.”
Moreover, the leaders discussed in the meeting about the topics of having no more fighting for security purposes and providing the life guarantee for displaced persons due to the fighting between Karen armed groups such as BGF and the subordinate armed forces of KNU.
Border Guard Forces (BGF) General Secretary Colonel Saw Chit Thu said, “the rate of death toll amongst our forces is getting high because of being attacked seriously. And this situation leads to the negative potential. I want all of you know that our BFF is a strong armed-group, having lots of forces. Now I am not threatening you. It is true that KNU leaders are also my teachers and parents. Since BGF is the one whose main responsibility is to protect and maintain the security of border areas, I urge the responsible persons to restrict sniping to our troops who are on service.”
It was reported that KNU Chair General Saw Mutu Say Poe, Vice-Chair Padoh Saw Kwe Htoo Win and Responsible person of Defense Ministry Saw Roger Khin from Karen National Union (KNU), Military Chief General Saw Johnny and Hpa-an District Chairman Padoh Saw Shwe Maung from Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA), the representative committee of Border Guard Forces (BGF) led by General Secretary Colonel Saw Chit Thu, the representative committee of Democratic Karen Buddhist Army (DKBA) led by Deputy Commander in Chief Lieutenant General Saw Steel and the representative committee of Karen National Union/Karen National Liberation Army-Peace Council (KNU/KNLA-PC) attended the meeting.
