Thousands of locals have fled to safer places following the military council’s raids on Lel Thit village in Tanintharyi Township in Tanintharyi Region, according to displaced locals.
On 19 July, a military column of over 200 soldiers made raids from Kyunsu Township to Lel Thit village in Tanintharyi Township.
As the military council’s forces continued to fire light and heavy weapons during their advance along the road, thousands of residents from seven villages, including Lel Thit, War Yit, Min Gote, and Maunghlaw villages, have fled to safety.
Fighting between the military council force and the joint resistance force took place on 20 and 21 July. There were no reports of casualties from both sides.
According to members of the resistance force, the military council’s column was present near Kyaukpazun mountain until the morning of 22 July, and tension remains high.
On 21 July, a 50-year-old man was injured by a shell fired by the military council’s Light Infantry Battalion-561 to Sin Gaung village in Tanintharyi Township.
According to a report by FE5 Tanintharyi, a local research group, more than 7,000 IDPs have been permanently displaced in Tanintharyi Township as a result of the military council’s offensive, shelling, and airstrikes.
