Military council troops and members of the junta-aligned Pyu Saw Htee militia have set fire to three villages in Myaing Township, Magway Region, at around 1 a.m. on August 11th, forcing villagers to flee to safety, a local resident told Than Lwin Times.

They reportedly torched Yaehtwet at around 1 a.m., Padaingdaw at around 7 a.m. and Nyaung village at around 9 a.m.

“They are clearly members of the Pyu Saw Htee. They did it out of social hatred. They are also the ones who placed the landmines at the entrance of the village. They did it and informed the junta soldiers themselves. These Pyu Saw Htee members are from Twinma and Wetpoke villages. They even cut each other’s throats. The villagers, not wanting to accept their acts, joined the PDF. Of course, this makes the PDF even stronger,” a local resident told Than Lwin Times.

Joint forces of the military council and Pyu Saw Htee militia have been active in Myaing Township since July this year and set fire to more than six villages in August, it was reported.

They burned Thitpulwaykone, Ohyin, Thazi, Hnansikan and Paukpinkaing villages on August 9th, and Obo and Kuntaw villages on August 10th and also devastated Kannet and Pyu Saw Htee-dominated Kanni villages.

Since the military coup, thousands of homes have been burned and tens of thousands displaced in Magway Region.
