The military council has spread disinformation about a National League for Democracy (NLD) party member in Pwintbyu Township, Magway Region, who was arrested and beheaded by junta soldiers as if they were members of the People’s Defense Force (PDF), locals told Than Lwin Times.
On the evening of December 4, regime soldiers arrested the NLD party member named U Win Htay from Thayetkone village and found him dead on the morning of December 5.
“I reported this because I can no longer remain silent. Armed men abducted the couple yesterday. The next morning, his body was found near the Shwebo Canal. He was brutally tortured and beheaded. Right now, they [junta soldiers] are telling villagers that the victim was killed by PDF,” a local resident told Than Lwin Times.
At the time of U Win Htay’s arrest, the regime soldiers reportedly included about ten members of the Pyu Saw Htee militia from Kyaungkonegyi village. The PDF members have not gained a position where they can carry weapons in public in the vicinity of the town of Pwintbyu.
“Yesterday, U Win Htay and his wife went to Minbu by car for health reasons. When he returned, regime soldiers and policemen searched his car more thoroughly than others. On the way back, Pyu Saw Htee members held a gun to his head and took him away at the entrance of Thitchokone village,” said a member of the NLD central executive committee in Pwintbyu Township.
He also said that he strongly condemns the brutal killing of the party members and terrorizing the public.
According to reports, U Win Htay, who was killed by the regime, was a executive member of the NLD in Minbu District and was active for the party during the elections.
Since the military coup in Myanmar, more than 50 NLD party members have been variously killed by the regime, police, and the junta-backed Pyu Saw Htee militia, while 987 people, including members of parliament, have been either arrested or detained, reports said.
The military council also sealed and confiscated the assets of NLD party members (326 cases).
