Artillery shells fired by military council troops struck Kyon Mein village in Thaton Township, Mon State, killing two children and seriously injuring two adults, locals reported.
Regime troops from Kyar Pan village indiscriminately fired heavy weapons at the village after gunshots were heard near Kyar Pan village on the morning of 8 March.
The shells landed and exploded in the yard of a house in Kyon Mein village, killing on the spot 10 and 12-year-old children and seriously injuring a man and a woman in their 50s.
“We heard gunshots from Kyar Pan village. It was in the early hours of the morning. In response, military council troops from its battalion in Kyar Pan fired artillery at the villages where resistance fighters might be present. The shelling killed two children and wounded a man and a woman,” said a local resident.
The wounded were reportedly treated at a clinic in the liberated area.
Following the military coup, more than 10 people were killed by indiscriminate shelling by junta forces in Thaton Township, according to the Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade 2.
A similar case occurred on 5 March, when junta troops stationed in the town of Lamaing fired artillery at Aung Tharyar village, seriously injuring a 78-year-old woman in the abdomen.
