Junta responds to intense fighting in Falam with heavy air support

As fighting intensifies near Infantry Battalion (LIB)-268 in the effort to gain full control of Falam in northern Chin State, the military council is defending the area with heavy air support, according to the Chin National Defense Force (CNDF).

The fighting intensified on 12 March. Since the morning of the military council has been carrying out bombings with jet fighters, Y-12, and Y-8 aircraft, dropping 500-pound bombs throughout the day, said Salai Timmy, spokesperson of the CNDF.

Salai Timmy said, “Since this morning, the military council has been dropping 500-pound bombs with jet fighters. The jet fighters have come more than ten times, and Y-12 and Y-8 aircraft are still flying. The fighting is very intense.”

On 9 November 2024, the Chin Brotherhood and joint resistance forces launched an offensive to capture the last hilltop camp, designating the battle to take Falam town as Operation CB.

The joint resistance force has gained control of all junta camps in Falam and is now attacking the last camp, IB-268, located on the hilltop, by blocking and cutting off access.

Since January, the military council has been sending reinforcements to defend IB-268, the last remaining hilltop camp.

During the operation to capture Falam, more than 100 prisoners of war, including police officers, were captured and are being held in detention in accordance with international law.

In the battle to capture Falam town, both the joint resistance forces, including CDF-Mindat and PDF-Zoland, and the military council suffered casualties.
