People displaced from Arakan State to certain townships in Ayeyarwady Region report that the military council is monitoring them with suspicion and subjecting them to weekly guest registration checks.

One displaced man from Arakan State said that the junta primarily targets those taking refuge in townships such as Kyonpyaw, Yegyi, Ahthoke, and Ngathaingchaung Townships in Kyonpyaw District of Ayeyarwady Region for monitoring and inspecting guest registration.

“The military council always keeps watch on Arakan IDPs in Kyonpyaw District’s townships with suspicion. We can’t move about freely. They impose quite strict restrictions. They check guest registrations once a week,” he said.

During these weekly guest registration checks, the junta primarily inspects any decrease in the number of people from previously reported guest lists and checks for any new arrivals.

“People are saying that the military council particularly fears AA (Arakha Army) members arriving in Ayeyarwady Region. When they check IDPs, they check young people very strictly,” the displaced man added.

Many civilians Arakan State have sought refuge in Ayeyarwady Region due to the battles in Thandwe Township and the border area between Gwa Township and Ayeyarwady Region.

Fighting between the junta and the AA is ongoing near Ku Lar Pyin village, close to Kyeintali town in Gwa Township.

As the junta has lost control of Thandwe in the southern Arakan coastal area due to AA’s offensive and battles have expanded to Gwa Township, some speculate that the junta might treat the people from Arakan State who have reached the Ayeyarwady Region with military and political vindictiveness.
