Two people were killed when military council troops indiscriminately fired artillery shells at villages in Khin-U Township, Sagaing Region, injuring two people.

According to reports, a combined force of regime troops and members of Pyu Saw Htee militia fired heavy weapons at Innpat village in western Khin-U Township without any fighting in the area.

“They fired four artillery shells at around 6 am. One of them struck Innpat village. There was no fighting. The shells came from the north. The villagers didn’t take it seriously because they didn’t know it was a shell. They thought it was the sound of a mine explosion. So they thought it was shrapnel from the mine explosion. There are many displaced people near the villages,” said a local woman.

She went on to say that a man and a woman who were hit by shell explosion were in critical condition.

“Two people – a man and a woman from the village. One of them was not in a very critical condition. I think another was seriously injured, but I didn’t get a good look at him. The man’s name is Yote Hsoe and the woman’s name is Ma Khaing. Yote Hsoe was hit in his lower belly. But I didn’t see which part of Ma Khaing was hit. The nurse said she thought they had taken her to the doctor because it was serious,” she continued.

Local residents said the victims from Innpat village were receiving emergency medical treatment.
Indiscriminate shooting by regime soldiers and Pyu Saw Htee members has alarmed residents and forced them to seek refuge in neighboring villages, residents said.

There are more than 1,000 households in Innpat village, which has faced repeatedly arson attacks by military council forces.
