The military council recently detained at least 10 innocent civilians for alleged links with the People’s Defense Force (PDF) in Yebyu Township in Tanintharyi Region, locals told the Than Lwin Times.
On 11 March, the army arrested Ma Kay Thi Thi Lin from Zinbar village and Ma Thet Myat Noe from Kyaukshut village in Yebyu Township when both at the age of 18 went to Kalainaung to buy a mobile phone.
On 12 March, U Lar Lar, head of the people’s militia from Zardi village managed to escape when an armed group tried to assassinate him. At around 2 pm on 12 March, the military council arrested healthcare provider U Aung Min who is also a political prisoner and recently released from jail, Daw Aung Min and Ko Aung Kyaw, from Zardi village.
The army arrested Ma Moe Myat Nadi Htwe from No.3 ward and four family members including Ko Kaw Thu Htwe from Michaunghlaung village.
The military council sent the detained locals to Kalainaung Myoma police station and the Interrogation Center at Infantry Battalion-410.
In late February, the military council detained nearly 20 locals in Yebyu Township. The military continues to detain most of them although it released some detainees.
According to the statement released by the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP) on 2 March, the military council has detained over 20,000 civilians since the coup.
