Military council bombed Kywe Thauk village near Kwin Waing naval base, which is the last military camp in Thandwe Township in Arakan State, on 21 July, according to locals.
Following the attack by the Arakha Army (AA) on Kwin Waing navy base with unguided rockets on 20 July, the junta’s air force bombed the village near the naval base, locals said.
“Kywe Thauk is situated closer to the Kwin Waing naval base when traveling by the water route. Yesterday, the army bombed it heavily. The navy fired a lot of shells. I saw soldiers marching towards Kywe Thauk by land” a local said.
Kywe Thauk village is accessible via a 20-minute water route from Kwin Waing naval base. Due to phone blackouts, it remains unknown whether there are civilian casualties, a local said.
On 21 July, there were some shootings in Sin Din Lay village on Zalun-Thabyuchaing road section in southern Thandwe and Kyee Kan Ye junction. Tension remains high between the AA and the military council force in Sin Din Lay, Tha Yar Kone, Ohn Pin Wa and Sin Din Gyi villages, close to Kywe Thauk village.
On 20 July, two unguided rockets fired by the AA landed and exploded in the compound of Kwin Waing naval base, killing two junta soldiers, said a person close to the navy.
“The AA attacked it with two ungudied rockets. One rocket landed and exploded on the mess hall, while another hit barracks. Two soldiers were killed in the attack. Both of them were privates. The personal assistant of a major sustained a hand injury. The injured soldiers were transported to Yangon by water” he added.
The military council is making preparations to defend the last remaining base in Thandwe Township. The military council has destroyed the bridges on the road leading to the naval camp, according to a news source.
The news source said, “The military council destroyed bridges along the road to Kwin Waing navy camp two days ago. I heard that this morning, fighting is taking place near Sin Din Gyi, Sin Din Lay and Kyee Kan Ye villages. The junta is bombing the area by plane.”
As the public are not allowed to use the road in front of the naval base, locals from Maung Shwe Lay and Kyauk Ka Lat villages are trapped in the village.
