Military council soldiers in Arakan State reportedly arrested more than 20 people in three days, from October 14 to 16, killing one of them in custody.
Those arrested include two from Maungdaw, one from Mrauk-U, two from Ann, 12 from Ramree, and six from Taungup Township.
The people arrested from Maungdaw are U Hla Thein (35 years old) from Karuna Network and U Tun Lin Kyaw, also known as Nyi Nyi (42 years old).
They were arrested early in the morning of October 15 and charged under Section 17(1) of the Unlawful Associations Act.
The arrested person from Mrauk-U is U Kyaw Thein (53 years old) from Nyaung Pin Zee district. He runs a restaurant called “Daw Nu Nu” in front of Global Treasure Bank at Kyet Zee intersection. When the junta soldiers arrested him at the restaurant, they also confiscated about 50 bottles of liquor from the restaurant, according to witnesses at the scene.
The two arrested from Ann Township are U Myo Myint Zaw, also known as U Byar Gyi (40 years old), and Daw Nyo Nyo (50 years old).
Regime soldiers came in a civilian vehicle and arrested U Myint Zaw by shooting at Taung Maw village at around 8 am on October 14, after which he was tortured to death. He was also deputy circle commander of United League of Arakan (ULA).
Local witnesses reported that regime soldiers came to Hin Ywet village in Ann Township in two civilian vehicles, arrested them in their house, and took them to downtown Ann.
Those arrested from Ramree Township are U Kyaw Min Han, a 38-year-old workshop owner, Maung Myo Htet Aung (19 years old), U Thet Naing Tun, also known as Maung Maung (34 years old), U Myo Min, also known as Bar Bar Gyi (34 years old), Ko Pyae Phyo Aung (24 years old), U Ko Ko Aung (36 years old), U San Lin, a 58-year-old rick saw driver, U Tun Lin Aung (38 years old), Maung Naing Lin Oo (18 years old), U Soe Paing (45 years old), U Khin Maung Shwe (37 years old), and Ko Min Htet Lwin (27 years old).
The arrests came after the Arakan Army (AA) arrested former junta Captain U Tun Kyi from Laung Chaung (No. 5) ward in downtown Ramree on October 15. The arrested were taken to the police station by soldiers from the 308th Light Infantry Battalion and police.
The six arrested from Taungup Township are U Than Ngwe (56 years old), U Kyaw Yin (64 years old), U Kyan Aung (65 years old), U Kyar Ni Aung, U Tin Pe and U Than Nu.
Junta soldiers in plainclothes arrested the three community elders – U Than Ngwe, U Kyaw Yin and U Kyan Aung – on October 14 at around 1 pm and took them to the No. (5) Operations Command Headquarters. U Than Ngwe was released in the evening of the same day.
Also in Paletwa Township, Chin State, junta soldiers arrested Ko Maung San Phyo (25 years old) and U Soe Hla (29 years old), two Arakanese brothers and mason workers, on October 13 and 14.
The two brothers were taken away with their faces covered and handcuffed and beaten halfway, according to a family member.
