The military junta bombed the South Ward of Hsipaw town in northern Shan State on the morning of 16 September, killing one civilian, according to local sources.
A local woman said the airstrike, which took place at around 9am on 16 September, destroyed two houses and killed one civilian.
“This morning’s bombing killed one. A mother and her child were hit as they were riding their bicycles. One of them died. Two houses were also damaged,” the woman said.
In a similar incident, on the evening of 15 September, the junta carried out an airstrike on Hsipaw town, which caused a house fire, according to local residents.
According to sources, the military council has been carrying out daily airstrikes since it announced the Three Brotherhood Alliance (3BHA) as terrorist group.
In addition, on the nights of 15 and 13 September, the junta reportedly bombed Nam Pawng in Lashio Township, according to local accounts.
A local man from Lashio said, “The junta bombed Nam Pawng again last night. But no one was hurt. This is the second time Nam Pawng has been hit by airstrikes. We can still hear gunfire in Lashio.”
With the Chinese Moon Festival coming up on 17 September, Lashio residents fear potential airstrikes by the junta on areas controlled by the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA).
Despite the ongoing airstrikes in northern Shan State, some residents cannot evacuate due to financial difficulties.
One woman explained, “We can’t flee from the war anymore. Evacuating costs money, and without work we have no income. When we hear planes, we hide in bathrooms. Some sleep in RC buildings, others dig bomb shelters.”
Military analysts suggest that fighting could intensify again as the military junta continues to launch counteroffensives against the areas controlled by the 3BHA during “Operation 1027.”
