There is a growing concern among the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) about the danger of targeted attack as the military council is carrying out attacks using grenade-installed drones in Karenni State.

U Tu Yal, an IDP from the eastern part of Demoso said: “We have no arms. We cannot fight back. The only thing we can do is to flee and hide. No place to flee. We have built bunkers. But we are not safe when fighting occurs.”

At the beginning of the clashes between the military council and a combined force of the Karenni defense force, the military council carried out surveillance by drones in Karenni State.

In November, 2022, the military council carried out attacks using grenade-installed drones.

U Ba Nyar, Director of the Karenni Human Rights Group said: “The military attacked the villages using drones. This is not the first time. We saw such drone attacks in Loilemlay. We have already got some evidence of drone attacks on schools and buildings. This is the targeted attack on the public and the IDPs. We need to denounce this case. The military fired heavy shells. The drone attacks amount to making a threat to the public.”

On November 9, 2022, the military council carried out attacks in western parts of Demoso by using the grenade-installed drones. On December 10, 2022, the military council carried out a drone attack on a house in western village of Demoso.

The drone being used by the m military council can carry four 60-mm grenades.

Artillery shells fired by the military council frequently land on the places where the IDPs are taking shelter.

The people worry that fighting may intensify in the dry season. They face uncertainty about whether they clear their plantations in the coming year.
