Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) are not in a position to return to their homes as fighting continues between the military council and the Ethnic Revolutionary Organizations (EROs) in Namtu Township of northern Shan State.

At around 6 am on September 4th, there was a fresh clash between the military council and the EROs in Hninpoke village-tract in Lwalmyay village and Namla village in Namtu Township. The fighting lasted 30 minutes. Following the fighting, some locals from Namla and Lwalmyay villages fled to safer places,” a local man told the Shan News.

This is the clash between the military council and the Kachin Independence Army (KIA). Locals fled to safer places as both sides used light and heavy weapons, he added.

“There is no report of a clash. The villagers are unable to return to their homes as the military tension continues. More than 50 IDPs including the persons displaced by the August 28 clash in Bawdwin are unable to return to their homes,” a local man from Namtu said.

There was a clash between the military council and the KIA on August 28th, displacing some locals.
The military council soldiers, a combined force of the KIA and the People’s Defense Force (PDF), the Shan State Progressive Party/Shan State Army (SSPP/SSA) and the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) are active in Namtu Township.
