ID cards issued to more than 99 percent of Myanmar IDPs in Mizoram State

Mizoram State Government has issued the ID cards to more than 99 per cent of Myanmar refugees taking shelter in Mizoram State of India.

According to the record collected by the High-Level Committee on Myanmar refugees led by the Home Affairs Minister of the Mizoram State till June 4th, the statement government has issued ID cards to 29,751 of 29,964 Myanmar IDPs in Mizoram State. It accounts for 99.28 per cent of the total IDPs, the Aizawl Post reported.

The anti-dictatorship movements emerged across the country in the wake of the coup on February 1st. As the military carried out violent crackdowns, arrests and killings, the people in Sagaing Region and Chin State fled to Mizoram State.

In February, the Mizoram State government formed the State-, district-and village-level committee to systematically compile the list of IDPs fleeing to the Mizoram State and implemented the issuance of ID cards to the IDPs.

According to the record of the High-Level Committee on Myanmar refugees, there are 149 relief camps in six districts of Mizoram State. A total of 11,833 IDPs are taking shelter at the relief camps while 18,131 are taking shelter in other places.
