It is inconvenient for the Arakan Army (AA) to hold a political dialogue with the military council as the military council is not the people-elected government, U Khaing Thu Kha, Spokesperson of the AA, said at the first online press conference of the United League of Arakan (ULA)/AA.

“The political dialogue may not be inconvenient for the AA if it is not a landscape we want. So, it depends on the situation. Peace affair is a ceasefire. The political dialogue is the discussion of the political compromise. It will be convenient only when we can make a political compromise with the official government. We can regard the official government which is elected by the public and governs the country in accordance with the Constitution. At present, it is impossible for us to hold a political dialogue with the military ruler,” he added.

Currently, the AA has made a ceasefire in Arakan State with the military council through a mutual understanding. Peace affairs is not a reliable condition as there is no agreement, he said.

“We have not signed the ceasefire officially. The situation may change at any time. It is difficult to estimate what will happen when.

On the other hand, the military council has invited the Ethnic Armed Organizations (EAOs) including the AA according to the path of the NCA (Nationwide Ceasefire Agreement).

However, they have no trust in the military council.

Currently, the AA has controlled 60 per cent of the Arakan State, he continued.
