Religious buildings and houses in Sanpya ward in the east of Mindat Township of Chin State, were destroyed by light and heavy weapons fired by the military council’s troops, at around 7 pm on September 23rd, according to a Christian pastor.
The firing of light and heavy weapons destroyed the RC churches and monasteries and NaTaLa (Border Areas, National Races Affairs and Development Affairs) schools. I don’t exactly know from where they fire. As the soldiers have taken position in NaTaLa schools and police stations, the weapons are assumed to be fired from these places. I did not see the fighting in the ground. But I hear the sounds of gunfire, the pastor said.
In the past, the military council’s heavy shelling also destroyed religious buildings in Mindat, Falam and Htantalan Townships. The Chin Baptist Convention (CBC) strongly denounced the military council’s attacks on religious buildings.
The military council’s troops enter the abandoned houses and steal properties in Mindat Township.
