A 50-year-old food shop owner and a 45-year-old man were killed by the heavy weapon fired by the military council in Lonekhin Hmawpone village in Hpakant Township in Kachin State, according to locals from Lonekhin village.
At around 8 pm on May 3rd, the military council fired two rounds of heavy weapons into Lonekhin village via Sankhar in Hpakant Township. A heavy shell landed on the village.
Food shop owner U Yone Gway and food buyer U Maung Myint died on the spot.
“There is no clash. The military council troops fired heavy weapons into the village. A heavy shell landed in front of the Winter Season food shop. The shop owner and the buyer died on the spot after being hit by the heavy shell, a local said.
The bodies of two victims were cremated today.
We heard the sounds of heavy shells from Mazwatyan village at around 7 pm. We thought the explosion occurred at the jade mining blocks.
We knew that it was fired by the military council only when the heavy shell exploded in front of a food shop in Hmawpone at around 8 pm. Hmawpone is located about one mile from Mazwatyan prison, a local said.
In the last week, the military council troops fired heavy shells at Brigade-9 of the Kachin Independence Army(KIA) in Hpakant.
