Fighting reportedly broke out between military council troops and the 36th Battalion of the Kachin Independence Army (KIA) near Monepaw area in Muse Township in northern Shan State at around 7 pm on October 25, leaving four people injured by artillery fire from the junta troops.

“They [junta troops] are firing artillery from Muse 105 Mile right now. They are also firing from Maihpan and Monepaw area. Three people have now been wounded. The two sides have exchanged fire for about ten minutes, but the regime troops are still firing indiscriminately with heavy weapons,” said a Monepaw resident.

Two women are among those injured by artillery shrapnel, but details are not yet available.
At the time of the fighting, villages had to hide in trenches as military council troops fired indiscriminately at the village with heavy weapons, said a resident of Maihpan village.

“The fighting started around 7:30 pm. It was the junta camp that was attacked. The military council soldiers are still shooting with heavy weapons. Therefore, villagers are forced to hide in their trenches out of fear,” he said.

The military council’s infantry base in Maihpan village in Monepaw area is said to conduct regular military activities in two columns and fire artillery indiscriminately. There are also frequent clashes with the KIA and the Myanmar National Democratic Alliance Army (MNDAA).
