Four locals including two children were wounded by the military council’s artillery shell fired into Wardatkwin village in Thonegwa village-tract, Kyaikto Township in Thaton District of Mon State on 3 May, according to local sources.
Light Infantry Battalion-207 intentionally fired more than 10 rounds of heavy shells into villages near Theinzayat although there were no battles, a news source from the Karen National Union (KNU) said.
The heavy shell fired by the military council landed on the roof of a house owned by U Yar Zar Tun in Wardatkwin village. It wounded U Yar Zar Tun, his 11-year-old child, three-year-old child and 31-year-old woman.
“81 mm shell fired by the army landed on the roof of the house owned by U Yar Zar Tun, at around 4 pm. It hit four family members. The adults got wounds to their heads, chest and abdomen. A child got a wound to right leg while another child got a back wound,” Pado Saw Aye Naing, Secretary of the KNU (Thaton District) told the KIC.

Many locals have fled for safety due to the military council’s ground offensives and the firing of artillery shelling on civilian targets in Thaton District in the KNU’s Brigade-1-cotrolled area in 2023.
The total number of IDPs in Thaton District has exceeded 120,000, according to the statement by the Karen Peace Support Network (KPSN) on 27 February.
