Four members of the military council’s border guard force in Maungdaw Township, Arakan State, reportedly fled with weapons and ammunition on 6 March, prompting regime soldiers to frantically search for them in neighboring areas.

The border guards who fled with weapons and ammo are from Myin Hlut police outpost under the 9th Border Guard Police, known locally as Na Kha Kha, located in southern part of Maundaw Township.

After the desertion, military council soldiers began a frantic search day and night for the four guard force members, according to a source close to Na Kha Kha (9).

“An official from the camp called us and said that the four border guards had run away. After they ran away, they patrolled all night. They patrolled around in cars all night. The patrols are on the roads right now. They’re frantically searching for them in cars,” he said.

Those who fled the outpost had weapons and ammunition with them, but Narinjara News couldn’t independently verify their service numbers and ranks.

Another local said it was not known when the four ran away and that they only found out they were missing from the queue in the evening.

“They slipped away around 8 or 9 in the morning. It wasn’t until members formed a queue in the evening that they were found to be missing. So they began a frantic search for the men,” he said.

During the armed conflict in Arakan State, military council soldiers have repeatedly fled and sought refuge with the Arakan Army (AA).

Last January, three regime soldiers from the 540th battalion and a sergeant from the 378th battalion fled with full weapons.

A similar case occurred in 2022 when some military council soldiers fled unarmed from Kyauktaw Maharmyatmuni Kyauktaw Hill.
