Four IDPs injured by heavy shelling in Kanpetlet

Artillery shelling hit and injured four refugees who were taking shelter in a farm in Kanpetlet Township in southern Chin State.

On December 10, junta soldiers entered Myatpyinkyal village in Kanpetlet Township and carried out indiscriminate firing of light and heavy weapons into the village.

A person helping the refugees said: “There are around ten huts Myatpyinkyal village, where the IDPs are hiding while doing farming. Two refugees were seriously injured and one got minor injury after a barrage of gunfire on two huts.”

The four injured are: three males and one male aged between 50 and 70. They got wounds to their arms and waists. The injured were sent to a nearby clinic.

The junta soldiers proceeded to Kyauktaung village via Myatpyinkyal village. Then, junta soldiers arrested six civilians and then released four detainees, he added.

Division-11, 55 and 101 of the military council advanced to Myatpyinkyal, upper Letmon, lower Letmon and Kharpan villages in Kanpetlet Township via Kyantaw village in Saw Township in Magway Region, where junta soldiers had conducted an offensive since December 8.

The people from upper Letmon and lower Letmon where the junta soldiers are stationed have fled to safer places. Currently, some people return to the village as the military council has withdrawn.

The Public Administration Body-Kanpetlet Township has issued a letter warning the refugees in Kanpetlet Township to stay away from the battle ground, to be cautious about the military column and to avoid using Kanpetlet-Saw road section.
