The military council has opened the cases against four locals from Paung Township and one from Bilin Township, under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code.
On 4 September, the military council arrested them for their participation in the protests and sharing of the posts which defamed the heads of the State on social media, according to the persons close to the security force.
A local from Paung Township said: “There are frequent arrests in Paung. Many people get arrested. Some people are released. Some people face the charges. As far as I know the cases are opened against as many as 10 people.”
Those who faced the cases are: Saw Yar Zar Min, 20, Aung Min Htwe, 22, and Chit Thu Paing, 33 from Uttada village of Paung Township, Ma Aye Ni Ni Aung, 22, from Kywechan village and Min Tun Myat Aung, 25, from Alulay village.
Following the incidents such as the shooting death of a police member and the attacks on the offices in Paung Township in the first week of September, the military council arrested more than 15 locals.
Of the detainees, Daw Cho Win, Daw Khin Thada Kyaw, Ko Phoe Cho, Daw Khin Than Nu, Daw Zin Mar Tun and Daw Sandar Lin from Uttada village in Paung Township have been charged under Section 52 (a) and Section 50 (j) of the Counter-Terrorism Law.

The cases will be opened against those who distribute the propaganda and instigations to destroy national peace and stability and create fear in the public and those who share the posts, under Section 52 (a) of the Counter-Terrorism Law, 124 (a) of the Penal Code, 505 (a) of Penal Code, Section 33 (a) of the Electronic Transactions Law and the existing Laws.
In late September, Thanbyuzayat Myoma police station filed a case against the owner of Kyaw Kyaw Kyar mobile repair services and sale shop and two workers in Thanbyuzayat under Section 505 (a) of the Penal Code for sharing the politically-motivated texts on social media.
