A fire reportedly broke out at the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP) office in Chin-Uzi Ward in downtown Hakha at 2 am on October 2, 2022.
The party office caught fire despite being tightly guarded by junta soldiers and policemen ahead of scheduled visits by high-ranking regime officials.
“I heard that high-ranking junta officials will visit. They have also been cleaning the office these days. The security there is tight. And it has been raining for the past three days. I was very surprised that fire still broke out in there,” said a resident of Hakha.
The exact cause of the fire is not yet known.
The fire broke out in the USDP office around midnight last night. The entire building did not burn down as the fire was extinguished by firefighters, but all documents and materials in the office were reportedly burned.
On August 31, a fire was also reported at the residence of the head of the road construction department in Pyi Taw Thar district in Hakha.
