Fighting may erupt due to a massive influx of the military council troops into the Democratic Karen Benevolent Army (DKBA)-controlled Waw Lay and Sonseemyaing, according to the officials of territory.

Nearly 300 soldiers of the military council arrived in the DKBA-controlled Waw Lay and Sonseemyaing via the base in the west Warmihta.

Deputy Commander Saw Kaw, Spokesperson of the Cobra column told the KIC: “Now the soldiers have not arrived at Waw Lay. They just observe the area. They will arrive here if the DKBA opens the road. The move is likely to clear the Cobra column and control Thae Baw Bo camp and Falu-Waw Lay road. Fighting will erupt if the military column enters Waw Lay. 120 MM and 81 MM heavy weapons are deployed near the place where Bo Steel is stationed.”

The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) is on standby. At present, tension mounts, Saw Kaw continues. According to the current movement, the military may carry out attacks from Thone Htet Kway near Lay Kay Kaw and Sonseemyaing.

Relevant regional leaders have assumed that the entry of the military column into the DKBA-controlled areas may be linked to cooperation among the top leaders of the DKBA. Some locals from Waw Lay and Sonseemyaing have fled to safer places due to the entry of the military column, the DKBA’s top commander said.

I think the military column may proceed to Thae Baw Bo. They don’t dare to enter the area without permission. Now the military column has arrived in Waw Lay and Sonseemyaing. They will get attacked if they invade the area. Some locals have fled to safer places, he told the KIC.

The DKBA and the KNLA did not shoot the soldiers although they were present along the route. The DKBA is not in a position to shoot the junta soldiers, the DKBA commander continues.

Over the recent days, the military council attacked the Cobra column with airstrikes, artillery shelling and ground offensive via Thone Htet Kway.
