Churches in 16 Catholic stations in Karenni State have been closed as the rite cannot be performed at the churches, a Catholic priest said.
“The number of Catholic stations closed in Loikaw is said to be high. The station must have churches, the people of the same religion faith, priests and abbots. This is called a “station”. Loikaw is one of 16 religion stations in Myanmar. Loikaw is a stronghold of Catholicism. The situation is not good as 16 stations are closed,” a Catholic priest said.
According to Christ the King’s statement, the people of the same religious faith including the priests and nuns in Karenni State have fled to safer places due to the growing military tension.
Catholicism has designated 16 stations as the religious areas. Now is the shutdown of a religious area. Artillery shelling fired by the military council destroyed six churches in Karenni State.
