Chin woman dies after being beaten up by junta soldiers in Kalay

A 30-year-old Chin woman from Pyi Taw Thar village in the northern part of Kale, died on 5 September after she was beaten up by military council soldiers, according to people close to the victim.

In late August, military council soldiers inspected Ma Do Date Hwaae who went to Kalay via Pyi Taw Thar village by motorbike together with her friend. Soldiers beat and slapped her till bleeding for no apparent reason, a person close to her said.

The military council soldiers seized her motorbike, mobile phone and wallet after beating up her. Then, she was released, according to the person close to her.

She felt dizzy, had a headache and experienced physical pain while eating breakfast on 28 August. She lost consciousness within a week.

“About a week or two weeks after she was beaten, she felt dizzy and had a headache while eating breakfast. Then, she fell down. From then on, she couldn’t recover within a week. She was sent to the hospital for examination, but no disease was found. According to the wishes of family, she will be sent to Mandalay for treatment. Yesterday, she died en route to Mandalay,” the person close to her said.

The body of the victim was brought back to her village. According to Christian tradition, the body was cremated at 3 pm on 6 September.
