Since after military coup in Myanmar, the number of IDPs has reached up to 40,000 within Chin State and such displaced persons have been mainly facing the challenge for food, according to the responsible person of Chin Human Rights Organization.
“People in Mindat or other places say their difficulty for getting food. When they fled, they could not bring the food for a longer period but just for a week. And they have neither medicine nor health professional. Moreover, since the rain is dropping continuously, it is another challenge to live. Since, even if they have the water-proof shelters, the ground is wet, it is difficult to stay properly,” said Chin Human Rights Organization’s Program Director Salai Van Biak Thang.
This is the number list of the IDPs from the townships in Chin State: around 7,000 in Hakha township, over 15,000 from three townships of Mindat, Kanpetlet and Matupi, around 5,000 in Htantlang township and over 15,000 refugees arriving in Mizoram State and the total number is therefore over 42,000.
The above-mentioned list is collected by Chin Human Rights Organization. And this list covers only the people who fled after coup but does not include over 10,000 IDPs from Paletwa township who had displaced since before coup.
“There is no international aid or other assistance in northern Chin State. Likewise, it does so in southern Chin State but the Red Cross Team is active there. However, such team is also not officially running. Though the international organizations, like UN, are trying to get official permit with respect to humanitarian aid, it has not yet been received until now. We always keep in touch with UNHCR and they also replied that they could not enter even though they were ready to come and help,” said Salai Van Biak Thang.
Some people are returning homes in certain parts of Chin State where the situation is getting clam. On the other hand, if the battles are heated more and the situation is getting worse, the IDPs number will get increased and there are some people who prepared in advance for fleeing.
