Youth For Myanmar has launched an online basic Mizo language program for Myanmar Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who are taking shelter in Mizoram State of India on August 1st.

Since August 1st, the language lesson will be taught via the facebook page of Youth For Myanmar every Monday (at 8 am and 8 pm in the Indian Standard Time)

“The IDPs from Mizoram State are facing many difficulties due to language barriers. For instance, they are inconvenient. They cannot speak the local language when they go to the hospitals and clinics and buy something. The language lesson aims to partly help solve their language barriers,” an official of the Youth for Myanmar says.

More than 30,000 IDPs from Myanmar are taking shelter in Mizoram State which shares a border with Chin State. They are taking shelter in the IDP camps arranged by the Mizoram State Government and NGOs while some IDPs rent the houses in the ward.

The language lesson covers currency terms and local terms used in shopping. It aims to teach advanced level lessons in order that the IDPs can communicate with locals.

Youth For Myanmar is an organization formed with the Myanmar youths who arrived in Mizoram State after the Spring Revolution in Myanmar. The organization held the fund-raising festival for the Spring Revolution and the sale of T-shirts to mark the birthday of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. The Youth For Myanmar uses the funds to provide cash assistance for the Myanmar IDPs in Mizoram State.
