The military once again attacked the Bangkok IDP Camp in western Pekon Township on the Shan-Karenni border with airstrikes on the afternoon of 18 November, resulting in extensive damage to the displaced persons’ shelters, according to local residents.

The Moebye People’s Defense Force 1007 has also reported that the military council conducted four airstrikes using two fighter jets, dropping 500-pound and 200-pound bombs.

A local resident said: “There are only IDPs in the Bangkok camp. At first, one plane came and dropped bombs. Then another arrived, and they both circled dropping more bombs. We heard they dropped four bombs in total. The church and some houses were destroyed.”

The airstrikes reportedly damaged IDP shelters, a church, and rice storage barns at the camp. Local sources report casualties, though details are still being investigated.

An official from Moebye PDF 1007 said: “There were casualties, but we don’t have the details yet.”

Previously, on 5 September, the junta’s airstrike on the same IDP camp killed eight children under the age of 15 and two adults around 40 years of age, with at least 20 people injured.

“Nobody is allowed to stay in the area that was bombed last time – it’s been fenced off,” said a local resident.

Following military leader Senior General Min Aung Hlaing’s statement about reclaiming territories controlled by resistance forces, the military council has carried out airstrikes more frequently across various areas controlled by ethnic armed groups throughout Myanmar.

This November, the military has conducted airstrikes on villages including La Ei, La Tein, and Ka Lar in Pekon Township, as well as the Bangkok IDP camp, Moebye town, and Hpruso town, resulting in civilian casualties.
