Three civilians were wounded by the artillery shells fired by the military while the 77th Anniversary Birthday of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi was being held in Hmawpone Madaeyan village in Lone Khin village-tract in Hpakant Township on June 19th.

At around 12 pm, the military fired two rounds of heavy shells into the crowd via Hpakant prison while the people in Lone Khin village-tract were holding the 77th Anniversary Birthday of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi, a protest leader told the KNG.

“The military fired artillery shells via the prison while we were holding the anti-coup protest and the birthday ceremony. The wounded persons are not the ones who participated in the protest. The artillery shelling hit three persons in the houses. They are not in serious condition,” he said.

The wounded are two women and one man. They got minor wounds to their thigh, arms and legs.

The heavy shelling hit a car and some houses in nearby areas.

“Despite artillery shelling, we could successfully hold the anti-dictatorship protest and the 77th Birthday of Daw Aung San Suu Kyi. I want to say that we don’t fear how the military threatens us. Our revolution force will continue doing our work, the protest leader says.

The people from Lone Khin in Hpakant Township in Kachin State have been holding anti-dictatorship protests till date since the coup.
