Artillery shelling kills three playing children in Pekon Township

Artillery shells fired by the military council troops landed in Lwalhtwae village in Pekon Township, killing three playing children on March 8th.

The artillery shell landed near four children and their father U Hla Tun. The artillery shell hit the whole family.

A 7-year-old child, a 10-year-old child and a 12-year-old child died on the spot. The victims are two males and one female. A 15-year-old girl and her father were injured.

“Two injured persons were sent to Loikaw People’s Hospital. I don’t know the information in detail. The victim is in stable condition although she is seriously injured. The victim is a 15-year-old girl,” a volunteer who sent the victim to the hospital.

Despite having no fighting today, the military council carried out indiscriminate firing of heavy weapons. In addition, the military council conducted airstrikes in Saungdular village in Demawsoe Township.

They took shelter in Lwalhtwae, 3rd mile Pakyae village and Mawchisusee villages, for three months from July to September last year. They returned to the village as the situation was stable.

The total number of civilian deaths in Karenni State has reached 221 since the coup, according to a statement released by the Progerssive Karenni People’s Force on March 2nd.
