Around 200 soldiers were killed in 45 days of fighting, Mindat-CDF says

Around 200 soldiers have been killed in the fighting between the military council’s troops and Mindat-Civil Defense Force (CDF) in Mindat Township in southern Chin State, according to a statement by the Mindat CDF, on July 20th.

The fighting started after the arrests of the persons who organized the sticker campaign “We Support NUG” and the shootings of innocent people, on April 24th.

There were more than 20 encounters between the military council and the Mindat-CDF during 45 days till June 8th. Six military vehicles were set on fire and around 200 soldiers, killed by the CDF.

A spokesperson of Mindat-CDF said: “On April 26th, a police member and a soldier died in the fighting. Around 20-30 members of the military council died. More than 60 members of the military council died in the fighting in May. The total number of deaths from the military has reached around 200. But we cannot know the exact number of casualties.”

From May 13th to June 4th, 24 CDF members were killed in the fighting in Mindat Township.

The spokesperson of the Mindat-CDF said: “The army suffered heavy casualties in the first and second encounters as the army looked down on Mindat-CDF.

From May 13rd to June 15th, there were more than 20 encounters between the Mindat-CDF and the military council’s troops. The military council offered to make a ceasefire after the intense fighting in Mindat Township from April 24th to 27th. Following mediation and negotiation by town-elders, both sides reached a ceasefire agreement from June 20th to July 4th. On May 12th, the agreement was void. The fighting resumed on May 13th. The martial law order was imposed in Mindat Township.

Although there is no fighting, the military council’s troops are marching to Shweaungtha village located between Htilin and Kyaukhtu in Magway Region.
