Nearly 3,000 locals have fled to safer places due to the military council’s offensive in Taungpyuak station in Thayetchaung Township of Tanintharyi Region, locals told the Than Lwin Times.

Since the morning of 11 April, a military column of over 60 soldiers entered Taungpyauk station via Thin Gyun village road.

On 10 April, the military column burned civilian houses in Kyauklhaygar village. On 11 April, two military columns again conducted an offensive in the villages of Taungpyauk station.

Locals from Kyaukhlaygar, Shaltaung, Kyatsarpyin and Dauk villages fled for safety. Most of villagers are taking shelter in nearby forests and safer places.

Despite the military’s offensives, there have been no clashes. Tension mounts between the military council and the People’s Defense Forces (PDFs), an official of local defense force told the Than Lwin Times.

On 9 April, the PDF attacked a place where the junta soldiers are stationed in Sawphyar village in Thayetchaung Township. As the military council suffered heavy losses, it conducted an offensive in Taungpyauk station.

The total number of the Internally Displaced People (IDPs) in Tanintharyi Region has exceeded 40,000 since the coup till the early April, according to the figures released by the local research team.
