The military council is transporting rations using vehicles with UN logos in Pekon Township of Taunggyi District in Shan State.
A philanthropist from Pinlaung Township said: “The military council is using vehicles with UN logos to transport rations to the soldiers on the ground from Pinlaung Township to Pekon Township.
“The army uses vehicles with the UN logo. I don’t know whether the army is doing it on purpose. The number plates are exactly the same with the UN. Some vehicles are UN logo stickers,” he said.
The people are taking shelter there following the clashes between the military council and the People’s Defense Force (PDF) in Pinlaung Township.
The UN has sent its agencies to Pinlaung Township to provide aid to the IDPs.
A PDF member from Pekon said: “Recently I saw vehicles with UN logos entering the township. The vehicles are loaded with soldiers and rations. I am concerned about the public.”
A local from Pinlaung said: “The military council has tightened inspections at the gates in Pinlaung. They carefully inspect the vehicles loaded with rice bags. Junta soldiers ask for money from the drivers.”
London-based Myanmar Accountability Project (MAP) has called on the UN to investigate the military council’s use of the UN logo in military activities.
The vehicles with the UN logo stickers arrived in Mwaytaw pagoda ground in Pinlaung and carried the distribution of rations.
