The military council abducted and killed 14 people who were taking shelter in Sartaungpyin village in the north of Kanbalu Township in Sagaing Region, according to locals.
At 7 am on November 3, the Light Infantry Battalion-363 based in Koetaungbo in Kanbalu Township arrived in Sartaungpyin village and then abducted 18 civilians. Then, the military council released four detainees and killed and burned the remaining 14 men,” a local said.
“On November 3, the army abducted 18 Internally Displaced People (IDPs). All the detainees are men. The military released two men on November 3 and two on the evening of November 5. The military tortured and interrogated the rest on November 5 and 6 all the day. Finally, the army killed and burned them,” a local says.
The 14 people killed by the junta soldiers are from Hlyawphyukone and Zeekanar villages.
The victims are: eleven men aged 30 and 40, a man aged 50, a man aged 18 and a 16-year-old grade nine student, he continues.
A military column of more than 60 soldiers from LIB-363 are stationed at Paukukone in Koetaungbo station in the north of Kanbalu Township, according to locals.
Due to tortures, four detainees released by the soldiers have suffered hearing loss till date.
Sartaungpyin area where locals are taking shelter is located about five miles from the place where the junta soldiers are stationed, according to locals.
On November 3, the LIB-363 carried out indiscriminate firing of heavy shells into nearby villages when the military column left for the Sartaungpyin area. Heavy shelling killed a 13-year-old child and injured three others in Zeekanar village.
