Artillery shelling into Kinseik village in MraukU Township in Arakan State without any fighting is the military’s targeted attack on the civilians, the Arakan Army (AA) said.

On the evening of August 28th, Light Infantry Battalion-377 and Light Infantry Battalion -540 based in MraukU fired heavy shells into Kinseik village without any fighting. The heavy shelling killed three people including a child and injured eight others, according to locals.

“Myanmar army’s such targeted attack on the civilians is a vulgar act. So, the Myanmar military shall pay the highest price for the war crime it committed,” said U Khaing Thu Kha, information officer of the AA.

There was a clash near Letkar village in MraukU Township Yesterday as the Myanmar military invaded the base stationed by the AA. The Myanmar army fired 30 rounds of heavy shells for no apparent reason, he added.

A town-elder from Kinseik village said: “We no longer dare to stay in the village. We are taking shelter in the houses of relatives and monasteries in the city. Now I am taking shelter at the monastery.”

The Arakan State Students Union strongly condemned that the artillery shelling into Kinseik village has resulted in civilian casualties as the military is taking the people hostage.

Currently, locals from Letkar, Buywetmahnyo, Phayagyi, Pauktawpyin, Waitharli and lower Thakan villages in MraukU Township have fled to safer places.
