All villagers displaced by the military’s offensive in Gangaw in Magway

All the people in villages of Gangaw and Hteelin in Gangaw District in Magway Region are displaced by the military council’s offensive, locals told the Than Lwin Times.

On June 4th, a military column of 70 soldiers raided Company-2, Battalion-1 of the Yaw People’s Defense Force (PDF).

The military council burned down more than 120 houses in Sinsal and Yaypoke villages in Hteelin Township on Pale-Gangaw Road and Nyaungle, Gaungtone and Mae villages in Gangaw Township.

There are a lot of refugees. All the people from Sinsal and Yaypoke villages have to flee for their lives. There may be over 1,000 refugees in the whole region. I don’t know the exact number of refugees. Fighting continues till now, a local told the Than Lwin Times.

The regional PDF members have to take care of the IDPs and fire victims. The elderly is in need of medicines, he added.

On June 2nd and 4th, the military council troops arrested seven people from Nyaunglae village and three persons including one person with disabilities from Khaungtone village and killed one person, according to the statement by the Yaw Regional PDF’s Alliance.

The person who was killed is a teacher who joined the Civil Disobedience Movement (CDM), a PDF member told the Than Lwin Times.

Eight soldiers of the military council were killed in the fighting between the military council troops and the Yaw PDF on June 4th, according to local news.

The military council is carrying out airstrikes, large-scale offensive, burning and looting by cutting phone lines in Sagaing Region, Magway Region and many parts of the country.
