From 1 to 30 July, nine civilians were killed and more than 16 others wounded in Moebye Township on the Shan-Karenni (Kayah) border, according to the data from local sources.
The causes of civilian casualties are linked to the military council’s artillery shelling, aerial bombardments, shootings of the civilians who returned home to carry rations and indiscriminate shelling and shootings during offensive operations, according to the study.
Among nine civilians killed in the incidents are three children aged under 18, two elderly men and three women. One of three children died due to a lack of timely access to medical treatment.
According to the current figures, there are 16 wounded civilians. However, the number of wounded victims may be higher than the current figures, according to the persons helping the Internally Displaced People (IDPs).
Most of the wounded were due to artillery shelling and aerial bombardments. Among the wounded victims are one pregnant woman and four children under 18.
According to the statement released by the Progressive Karenni People Force (PKPF) on 1 July, the total number of civilian deaths including the IDPs has reached 500 since the coup.
Till 28 July 2023 since the coup on 1 February 2021, the military council killed 3,850 civilians across the country, according to the Assistance Association for Political Prisoners (AAPP).
