A column of about 200 military council troops has advanced into Pakarri village in Dawei Township in Tanintharyi Region and arrested residents, locals told Than Lwin Times.
The regime’s column began its advance into the area on foot via Byaw Taw Wa. Junta forces arrested and interrogated five Pakarri residents but released them later in the afternoon.
A local resident said some residents of the village fled their homes before the arrival of the junta forces, while others stayed to observe the situation.
The situation was tense as the Myanmar Army continued its military activities with a large number of troops in the area and fighting could escalate, a People’s Defense Force (PDF) official told Than Lwin Times.
Under these circumstances, the local PDF have urged the people to strictly abide by the announced rules and seek help if they need to flee.
On 10 April, joint forces of the local PDFs carried out a raid on junta troops stationed in Pakarri police station. The fighting lasted about four hours and there were casualties on both sides.
