Eleven people were wounded in drone attacks on the Township General Administration Department in Shwegu Township in Kachin State on 6 September, according to residents.

At around 11 am on 6 September, Battalion-5 of the Kachin People’s Defense Force (KPDF) attacked the Township General Administration Department at No.4 ward in Shwegu Township twice—at around 11 am and at 11.42 am by dropping eight bombs.

A total of ten staff and one civilian who came to the office for the application of a recommendation letter, an official of the KPDF Battalion-5 said.

“All eight bombs exploded. Before that attack, they held a meeting. We attacked it shortly after the meeting. The bomb exploded on the ceiling of the meeting hall. All the people would die if the bombs exploded in the meeting hall. The wounded have been admitted to the hospital,” the official said.

At around noon after the attack on the GAD, the military council force from Shwegu police station indiscriminately fired heavy shells into the villages around Shwegu. Security was temporarily tightened after the attack, residents said.

The KPDF carries out frequent drone attacks on the military council’s office buildings and police station in Shwegu Township. On the morning of 4 September, it carried out drone attacks on the police station twice. In late July, it also attacked the Township GAD, residents said.

The military council has stepped up security in Shwegu Myoma police station and tightened inspections at the entry and exit gates.

There are frequent attacks on the police station and government offices in Shwegu. Since June this year, the attacks have significantly increased, residents said.

A local from Shwegu said: “The resistance forces conduct frequent attacks on the military council troops which advance Shwegu via the water route and are stationed at the camps. Even police and other civil servants inevitably have to go to their offices. The situation may become worse as even the police station gets attacked.”

There are four districts and 18 townships in Kachin State. Shwegu Township sees a rising number of civilian casualties and the Internally Displaced People (IDPs). The military council forces usually fire heavy shells when the military ships sail along the Ayeyarwaddy River after the military coup.
